Frank Brown Recreation Center to Reopen Monday | WRBL

According to a news release, "The Frank Brown Recreation Center (FBRC) is scheduled to reopen to the public on Monday.

The center will be open for basketball practices and games, open basketball play, fitness area hours, and classes. The racquetball courts and game room will remain closed to the public until further notice due to ongoing construction.

Patrons are asked to park in the new parking lot off Drake Ave. The building will be accessible to pedestrian traffic via a temporary walkway from the parking lot to the rear entrance of the building closest to the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center. Patrons requiring handicap access are asked to use this entrance. Additional parking is available in the small lot off Opelika Rd. Limited access to the building will be available via the side entrance located at the corner of the rec center building and the gym.

In January 2012, Auburn voters approved a package of public improvement projects as part of the Special Five Mill Tax Referendum. The project includes Phase II of reconstruction at the Frank Brown Recreation Center, allowing for additional classroom space, a conference room for meetings and seminars, facade improvements, a new racquetball court, and parking improvements. This project is being coordinated in conjunction with the ongoing construction of a new facility for senior citizens currently being constructed on the campus of the Frank Brown Recreation Center and the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center. The new 8,454 square foot facility will allow for expanded senior programming as well as administrative offices for Parks and Recreation. The project also calls for reconfigured traffic and parking to allow cars to enter the campus from Perry St, away from Opelika Rd. Construction on both projects is expected to be complete in mid-2013."
