(AP) ? Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Monday that Rick Santorum is ill-prepared to deal with the nation's economic woes, calling his GOP rival a nice guy who never held a job in the private sector.

A day ahead of the crucial Michigan primary, Romney shifted his line of attack from the cultural issues and conservative rhetoric he used over the weekend and instead insisted that the former Pennsylvania senator doesn't know how to create jobs.

"I understand why jobs go, why they come, I understand what happens to corporate profit, where it goes if the government takes it," Romney told a crowd at the Byrne Electrical warehouse.

Romney plans three stops on Monday in Michigan, the state where he was born and raised and one he is fighting hard to win. He's far ahead in Arizona, which also holds its primary Tuesday.

Santorum has mounted an unexpectedly strong challenge against Romney in Michigan. Polls show a close race, and a loss would be embarrassing to the former Massachusetts governor and could jeopardize his path to victory in what's already become a prolonged fight for the GOP presidential nomination.

Romney seized on Santorum's opinion piece in The Wall Street Journal on Monday.

"I'm glad he recognizes this is going to be a campaign about the economy," Romney said of his rival's op-ed. "It's time for him to really focus on the economy and for you to all say, 'Okay if the economy is going to be the issue we focus on who has the experience to actually get this economy going again?'"

Romney didn't mention Santorum's conservative credentials, as he had in recent days, when he tied Santorum to former Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter, who supports abortion rights and switched parties from Republican to Democrat. Instead, the wealthy former Bain Capital chief stuck to his pitch as a private sector businessman.

It's also a contrast from just days ago, when Romney was highlighting his socially conservative credentials, telling a tea party event that he was a "pro-life governor" and a "pro-life candidate."

"I'm the conservative candidate, and what we need in the White House is principled conservative leadership," Romney said Saturday. "And I'll bring it."

Romney has previously assailed Santorum as "not a fiscal conservative" and said he voted to fund Planned Parenthood when he voted for Title X while serving in the Senate.

That was gone from his appearance Monday. "Senator Santorum's a nice guy, but he's never had a job in the private sector," Romney said.

Romney has three stops planned Monday as his bus rumbles from Grand Rapids back to metropolitan Detroit, where he will spend election night. He held a morning rally in Rockford and plans events in Albion and Royal Oak.

At stake Tuesday are 30 delegates in Michigan and 29 in Arizona. Voting comes ahead of an intense week of campaigning across the country. March 6 is Super Tuesday, when 10 states will hold GOP nominating contests as far apart as Virginia and Alaska. Wyoming also holds county conventions beginning that day. At stake are 419 delegates to the Republican National Convention this summer ? more than have been awarded in all the previous contests combined.

Home Improvements Need A Professional Touch - Lawn Mowing ...

A Bedroom installed by professionals by Birch Interiors?Bedroom Furniture Southport,?gives a much higher quality outcome when compared to a self installed one from DIY retailer flat-packed units. Here a some reasons why a professionally fitted Bedroom is a better choice.A Greater Range of Accessories

An established Bedroom designer and installer is going to have access to a greater range of accessories, including in-built shoe cabinets, shelves, storage solutions and other finishing details. Locating these parts on your own can be time-consuming and you will find that components from several suppliers don?t always fit well with each other. A professional installer will be experienced with what can be installed along with the best way to work with the space.

Superior Design Aesthetics

Professional kitchen designers such as Birch Interiors?Kitchen?Southport?are able to visualise the actual end result when arranging the layout of your new kitchen. It is sometimes tempting to try to accommodate more into the available space, but this tends to result in a kitchen that seems confined, or where doors and open awkwardly into tight spaces. There might not be room for the breakfast bar or centre island, and attempting to put these kinds of facilities where space is too restricted will result in dissatisfaction.

Better Use of Technology

Together with new technologies available such as seamless kitchen worktops, a self-installed kitchen may well not achieve the levels of fit and finish that a professionally fitted kitchen might otherwise achieve. Professional class equipment and knowledge will lead to a better end result than even a proficient DIY installer would accomplish with with domestic grade equipment.

Complete Project Management

A professional installer will work very closely with other tradespeople to make certain plumbing related and electrical work is correctly timetabled in order that installation proceeds as efficiently as possible. Because of this the interruption to your property is going to be over much more quickly than if you were to plan the project yourself. When a DIY project over runs, you may have other obligations to juggle, for example a day job. Do you really want to have your undertaking run into weekend after weekend?

Having your bedroom or kitchen professionally installed is more costly than an DIY installation, however the paybacks are invaluable.

Microsoft Ups Its Legal War Against Google With A New Attack

The battle between Google and Microsoft used to be a back room affair. In the last year, it's turned into an very ugly and public war of words.

Now, Microsoft is upping its legal war against Google as well.

This isn't the first time Microsoft has used the law to fight Google.?

Microsoft seeks license fees from Android resellers and is willing to sue those who don't comply. Last March, Microsoft added its name to an antitrust complaint against Google that had already been filed by other, smaller companies.

But the new complaint is an escalation.

The complaint accuses Motorola of breaking its promise to license its patents under "fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory" (FRAND) terms. Basically, Microsoft is accusing Motorola of charging way too much for using some patents related to the H.264 video standard, which is used for most video on the Web today. Microsoft says it licenses a basket of more than 3,000 patents from 29 other companies for a cost of about $0.02 on a $1,000 laptop.

Motorola wants to charge $22.50 for its 50 patents.

Apple has filed similar complaints against Motorola in Europe.

There is some irony in Microsoft's charge, as Microsoft allegedly asks for some pretty hefty licensing fees from Android resellers. According to Barnes and Noble -- who refused to pay up after using Android on the Nook tablet, and drew a lawsuit from Microsoft in response -- Microsoft charges more for licensing 6 patents used in Android than it does to license the entire Windows Phone platform that it built.

But the situation is a little different there, because Microsoft never licensed these patents for use in a broadly available standard. When patents are used in a standard, they generally are supposed to be made available under FRAND terms.

Google was quick to point out the irony, saying in a statement, "We haven?t seen Microsoft?s complaint, but it?s consistent with the way they use the regulatory process to attack competitors. It?s particularly ironic, given their track record in this area and collaboration with patent trolls."

Marine makes last stand in foreclosed home

Arturo de los Santos takes part in a demonstration in front of Freddie Mac's Los Angeles offices on Feb. 2, demanding the mortgage company halt efforts to forcibly remove him and his family from their single-story house in Riverside, Calif..

By Kari Huus, msnbc.com

Arturo de los Santos lost his home to foreclosure more than a year ago and was evicted. But because he felt he was treated unfairly, he moved back into his home of 10 years in an effort to force the lender, Freddie Mac, to back down.

"I?m just a regular guy who gets up each day, takes the kids to school and goes to work," said de los Santos, a retired Marine who is hunkered down in the modest three-bedroom house in Riverside, Calif., surrounded by an encampment of Occupy Riverside protesters and housing activists. "We?ve done everything the way we were supposed to. We?re not going to just sit back and let Freddie Mac steal our home."

A new eviction order aimed at forcing de los Santos, a 46-year-old metal worker, and his family out of the house took effect Tuesday, meaning that sheriff's deputies could arrive at any time. Arturo de los Santos also has been served a court summons threaten him with arrest if he doesn?t leave his house.

De los Santos? story is similar to thousands of other American homeowners who claim that banks mishandled mortgage modifications.

When the economic crisis hit in 2008, the factory where he worked cut his hours, so de los Santos pursued a modification based on his lower income with JP Morgan Chase, servicer of the loan.

De los Santos told NBC Los Angeles that in 2009, the bank initially lowered his payment in a modification but then stopped taking his money.

Before the house foreclosure process was complete, de los Santos? hours and income returned to pre-crash levels, but he says that JP Morgan Chase and loan holder Freddie Mac rejected his efforts to bring the loan up to date. Instead, his home was foreclosed and he and his family were evicted.

Gary Kishner, a spokesman for JP Morgan Chase disputes de los Santos? account, saying he applied multiple times for loan modifications but did not qualify under Freddie Mac?s requirements for participation. The foreclosure went through in November 2010, he said, and ownership reverted to Freddie Mac.

??The loan is no longer in our portfolio,? he said. ?It?s always been their decision.?

Calls to Freddie Mac for comment on the case were not returned.

But de los Santos said he has been unable to get the attention of Freddie Mac to discuss his loan, a common refrain from homeowners trying to avoid foreclosure.. ?

The home sat empty for about six months before de los Santos decided to take bold action. He and his family moved back into the home on Dec. 6. Activists from the Occupy movement and the Alliance for California Community Empowerment launched their "occupation" of the property to bolster his bid to renegotiate on Feb. 2. ?Since then, said Peter Kuhns, a spokesman for ACCE, there have been 10 to 15 activists present at the house around the clock.

On Feb. 8, de los Santos and some 250 supporters staged a protest in the lobby of the 48-story office tower in downtown Los Angeles that houses Freddie Mac. They set up a "negotiating table" and sent a letter to the 44th floor seeking a Freddie Mac manager to explain his rejection for modification.

He and one other person were arrested and charged with trespassing.

A few homeowners who, like de los Santos, have undertaken public ?occupation? of their former properties have succeeded in getting a new deal. In October, msnbc.com covered the case of Rose Gudiel, another resident of the Los Angeles area, whose public protests with numerous supporters apparently played a role in forcing Fannie Mae to cancel her eviction and agree to an eleventh-hour loan modification.

But while the ?occupation? approach may meet with occasional success, it?s a desperate measure that most lawyers do not recommend.

"It?s trespassing, really, if there has been an eviction order," said Noah Zinner, staff attorney with Housing and Economic Rights Advocates. "It?s problematic because to the extent it involves trespass it can get the people in trouble."

De los Santos is one of the millions of homeowners who will not be helped by the recent $25 billion settlement with four major banks over allegations of improper foreclosures.

The settlement, which that includes all but one state, will help lower the principal for about 1 million homeowners who are underwater and behind in their house payments. Another 750,000 people whose properties are worth less than they owe the bank will be able to refinance at a lower interest rate if they up to date on payments.

But loans backed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are not part of the settlement because the government supported institutions don?t service their own loans.

The Best Way To Complete Interior Remodeling And Painting In No ...

When it comes to home improvements, few things are more exciting than remodeling rooms such as kitchens or even basements. You are enhancing the personality of your home, significantly, and you are also putting your own personal stamp on it. Not only will you be happier, but the worth of your home will dramatically increase. Write down all of the possible improvements that you want to do when you get started on your remodeling.

So plan very well and in advance if you want to do this your self. Whether you have professional experience or not, by going slow it will turn out well.

Depending upon what you are painting, you can probably do it on your own. Take some time before you paint the interior of your home to plot out a course of action. Factors like how warm it is, how cold it is, and the type of aeration within your home must be considered.

All of these factors play a role in helping you determine the type of paint you need to purchase. You need to consider whether or not you want to use non-toxic paint or paint that is completely environmentally safe. That may be especially important if you have children, pets or breathing concerns. While that kind of paint is more expensive, the benefits far outweigh the costs in our minds. If your house has exterior screens, it?s important to maintain them in good condition. If you have torn screens, you?re inviting every flying and crawling critter into your home. If you live in an area with mosquitoes, you know the importance of keeping them outside. While screens used to be made from metal, that is no longer the case. Screens are now typically made using more cloth-like, synthetic materials. The downside to that is they tear very easily, so be sure everybody treats them with care.

One improvement project that many people shy away from is bathroom remodeling because they do not understand why they should do it. Most of your remodeling money is simply not spent on the bathrooms in your house. Though it is not popular, many people do spend quite a bit of money remodeling their bathrooms.

One thing that is almost always added is some form of fan to aerate the room. Many people have a fetish for glamorous and large sinks with vanities. You may spend a little extra time remodeling this room because of the personal nature of the room itself. Be sure you know what you are doing so there are no leaks, and the tiles do not degrade due to moisture introduction.

You accomplish several things when you do home improvement projects. You add value to your home when you increase its assets in this way. And the end result can be something the entire family can enjoy for many years.

In Frankfurt, Europe's banking capital, Occupy soldiers on

Even amid last week's record low temperatures in Europe, a hardy group of protesters kept Frankfurt's Occupy encampment going between towering bank buildings. ?

The cold snap gripped much of Europe, freezing rivers, interrupting barges, and threatening heating sources. But it seemed to invigorate the anti-inequality activists in Germany?s financial capital of Frankfurt. The stalwart protesters there are one Europe?s main surviving ? and thriving ? Occupy Movement encampments.

Since October, hundreds of residents have been bivouacking in tents in a quaint park directly across from the European Central Bank. Last week, as temperatures plunged to this winter?s low of -20 degrees Celsius (-4 degrees Fahrenheit), a core group of 38 held their ground and slept in their tents ? a survival challenge that was both physical and ideological.?

"It?s important that at least a few of us stay here to give others strength,? says J?rgen Harter, the software engineer who is the encampment superintendent of sorts, repairing cables, providing water, putting up tents, fine-tuning the logistics of a 50-or-so-tent village. Mr. Harter says he is fighting for a society that is more humane and less ruled by the power of consumption and money. "And for that, it?s worth it to fight ? and to freeze," he says.

While the spectacular rise of the worldwide Occupy movement has been followed by its withering away in much of the world, Occupy Frankfurt has established itself as a peaceful, accepted voice ? a testimony, some say, to the tradition of tolerance and openness of this old city of commerce.?

When police broke up the Berlin camp last month, the Frankfurt camp gained visibility. This week people traveled to Frankfurt from Spain and the Netherlands to get some occupy know-how. Proudly, Harter talks of "occupy tourism."

Squeezed between the banks? shimmering glass and steel towers and the city's opera house, theater, and posh designer stores, the occupiers are a reminder of a hidden side of this wealthy city. "This location is part of our identity," says Harter, who says he has camped there for the better part of the past four months despite living just a few subway stops from the encampment.

"Nobody is afraid of us. We?re not aggressive. We reject violence. We don?t want to verbally aggress anybody. The bankers who work here are also human beings," Harter says.

This fall, Frankfurt?s Occupy camp was a haven for discussions ? on capitalism, education, and culture. But then critics started complaining that the group had no focus anymore, no real mission. Movement supporters argue that the movement?s raison d??tre lies in the sheer power of its presence. ?

For now, the main battle is to survive the cold. On the frigid day I visit the camp, white frost has wrapped the camp in an eerie quiet. A string of protest signs swing in the air, the only visible signs of life. "Euroland will soon be over," one sign reads. "You occupy the money, we occupy the world," another says. "Break the dictatorship of financial markets!?

Braving the wind, Harter inspects the campsite. A few weeks ago the ground was littered with cables. Harter put them all away for safety. The cold made the water pipes he installed freeze. He wants to insulate them. "It looks like we?re going to be here for the long haul," he says. "Maybe one, two years."?

Harter goes about slapping shoulders, sharing jokes. "Come on, the sun is shining!" he tells a grumpy-looking man. Gas isn?t working, somebody complains. "I promise," he reassures, "you?ll get gas. You know I have connections!" His voice radiates confidence and everyone is welcome. Every day local bakeries deliver leftover rolls to the camp?s mess, a wide, spacious tent equipped with a kitchen. Neighborhood residents come and cook. Because the water pipes have frozen, campers get water from the opera house, just across the street ? 100 liters a day.

One of the biggest benefits is the human exchange, the protesters say ? the things protesters and observers learn just by meeting and talking with each other.?There are, for example, the investment banker Harter got to know, who confessed that in spite of the money and power he had, he felt lonely, and the prominent people who take the time to stop by after a nearby fundraiser. Often people tell Harter, "I couldn?t do it, but go on!"

The Frankfurt occupy-ers do not expect the world to change overnight. Even if the movement dies, as it already has in many cities, they see the mere fact that US President Obama mentioned economic unfairness in his State of the Union speech in January as a sign the movement has had an impact.

North Atlantic Arts ? Post Topic ? Basic Diy Diy Tips You Need To ...

If you are planning some home improvement for the house then probably you?ll be thinking with what tools you?ll need for you to finish the work. Certain types connected with reciprocating saw saws will be better suited to several types of projects. A good strategy to use about shopping for do-it-yourself tools is to go online. If the surfaces are, in the downstairs room, you will demand stiff-bristled brushes, wire brush, and heavy-duty paintbrushes if you happen to mission is to safeguard the walls. Most drills needs to be plugged into that electricity supply, while others will be cordless and take advantage of batteries. Here we will discuss incorporate a common and important tools required for home improvement.

You will certainly want to contain a good hammer onto your list of resources, as most house and garden projects that might be brought to imagination involve hammering something over the lines. So what is definitely suggested is for you to make yourself a physical item of paper that will assist as a series. You can see this out by government websites, or by creating a few phone requests. Home Depot reported 2008 an increasing year for non-gas out of doors power equipment. Just remember to purchase a set associated with tools that feel in your arms; tools that fit both hands are both much easier and safer to work with. As part of your abode improvement tools set up, you should pay for garden tools for instance a lawn mower, a spade, a garden hoe, a garden fork including a rake.

Beginners probably should not hesitate to contact professional help, plumbing, electrical and structural problems particularly should be eventually left to qualified tradespeople not to mention experts, remember the assistance of the professional usually is going to take a permit, with a cost attached. They need to prep ahead and enlist the assistance of their man for your projects that have to have heavy lifting. If you acquired a jaw deer, you can do it all on your own because the jaw horse will hold up the door to aid you. Plumbing is by far the most complicated DIY projects but these tools makes it a significant easier. Get yourself several tutorial videos and you?ll easily learn the intricacies of your respective new acquisition. This increased reputation was immediately noticed from the big boss manufacturing companies who would like to tap into the feminine market. An air compressor stands out as the favourite tool for many home improvement fans while it makes nailing as well as installing moulding better than they by chance thought possible.

One approach to stay safe practical is related to your comfort aided by the job. You will obtain garden tools during two types, namely, manual tools along with power run resources. Also, keep drill parts, cutting tools, and blades pointed. Any contractor that vastly underbids organization and has a nasty reputation is not the best option. You can select a cordless drill or maybe a corded drill to acquire the job executed faster.

If you want to work outdoors, you would need to have some important tools which include drills, screwdrivers and an important hammer to finish the same job right. A gallon from paint, being painted being a second coat, usually covers in relation to 300 square foot. If you are intending to buy some redesigning tools, you better read quick description of which kind of equipment you might require. You should get to figure out simply which jobs it is best to undertake and which jobs needs to be done by a guru. Adding foliage, furniture, and lighting all create a good idea. On the alternative hand, you will likely simply choose individual device if you ever already own added wireless house improvement equipment of your same brand.

(AP) ? The parents of an 8-year-old boy who died from Hodgkin lymphoma after suffering for months from undiagnosed swollen glands were sentenced to eight years in prison Thursday following their guilty pleas to denying him medical treatment.

Attorneys for Monica Hussing, 37, and William Robinson Sr., 40, had said the parents had financial problems and tried to get checkups for their son but couldn't afford it.

The couple was given the maximum sentence by Cuyahoga County Judge Michael Astrab, who accepted their guilty pleas last month to attempted involuntary manslaughter in a last-minute plea deal before their trial was about to begin. They were handcuffed and taken into custody immediately. Both plan to appeal the sentence.

"I loved my son," Robinson told the judge, occasionally wiping his eyes with a tissue. He said he was sorry.

"I tried to help my son," Hussing said as family members in the courtroom quietly sobbed.

Hussing's sister, Shelia Slawinski, cried as she stood before the judge and gave voice to her nephew, Willie Robinson.

"I told my sister," Slawinski said. "I offered to help my sister."

According to the prosecution's pre-sentencing memo to the judge, at least eight family members noticed Willie's deteriorating health over a period of more than two years and most spoke to the couple about it. One relative described the boy's swollen neck glands as the size of a softball.

"Twenty-nine months he suffered," Slawinski said. "Twenty-nine months they had to do something and they chose not to."

Asked outside court why her sister hadn't taken care of Willie and hadn't enrolled him or three siblings in school, Slawinski said it was easier for Hussing to stay in bed during the day and do drugs. Both parents have abused drugs, their attorneys earlier told the judge.

Hussing's oldest daughter, Lillian, 18, defended her mother in court and said Willie was able to do the same things other 8-year-olds do. "He was able to play, go outside," she said.

The judge looked surprised and asked the teen if she would be willing to repeat her statements under oath and possible penalty of perjury. She did.

The judge compared the autopsy photo of Willie's emaciated body to concentration camp victims. "If anybody, anybody, didn't know this kid was sick, they are seriously, seriously disturbed," Astrab said.

Two doctors told the judge before the sentencing that no sick child would be turned away from a hospital.

Willie Robinson collapsed at his home on March 22, 2008. Prosecutors say he had begged his parents to take him to see a doctor but was rejected. Hodgkin lymphoma is a highly treatable cancer.

Lillian Hussing said earlier the family didn't have money for medical care and tried repeatedly to get help from social services and visited a free clinic but left when told they would have to pay $180.

The family soon moved to Cleveland and the boy died within weeks.

Prosecutors say that while the boy was suffering, the parents claimed financial hardship but paid $87 to have a pit bull treated for fleas. Hussing's defense attorney, John Luskin, said the dog belonged to Hussing's parents and her parents paid for the treatment.

Trumbull County Children Services says it had worked with the family to provide Willie health care, getting involved after receiving a phone call in July 2007. Agency officials said a case worker visited the family at least monthly and pushed the parents to have a medical follow-up on his swollen neck but they didn't.

However, Robinson's attorney Thomas Rein said previously that a social worker who visited the family in January 2008 "indicated the kids were healthy and happy." He said no one knew the boy had cancer until he died and an autopsy was performed.

And Lillian Hussing said a case worker had told the family the boy's lump looked like a swollen gland and to hold off until they could secure financial assistance before getting it checked.

About two weeks after they moved to Cleveland, she said, her brother came down with something. Her mother treated him with cold medicine and he died within three days.

Podcast Basics For Doswell MLM Business Bloggers

Today?s Doswell direct selling article is for Doswell internet rookies who want to kick up their web marketing a notch by adding a podcast to their Doswell home business blog.

A podcast is a multimedia file that is downloaded for playback on a mobile device such as an iPod or laptop computer. It can be a digital recording of a radio program or, more often, a program produced solely for online distribution. A podcast can be a recording of a webcast: a live Doswell program that is ?streamed? or broadcast on the internet in real time. When this is the case, it is similar to a DVD recording of a live program that you store in the database of your playback device.

A related term is the acronym RSS which probably originally stood for Rich Site Summary feed but is sometimes used for Really Simple Syndication. You have probably seen the term RSS on websites. An RSS feed allows digital files to be downloaded in a standard format. Ashland podcast listeners often subscribe to favorite ongoing podcasts. When new podcasts are produced, they are automatically downloaded by RSS applications.

It is fairly simple hardware- and software-wise to product your own podcast for your Doswell online business
. Your laptop may already have recording capability. If not, you can buy any equipment you need in the Ashland area.

Doswell business owners operating on a shoestring will be happy to know that basic recording and editing software can be downloaded for free. I recommend using a headset microphone so the mic is always in the right spot to get a clear and consistent recording.

Now the fun part: what will you podcast? The possibilities are endless for Doswell direct marketers. You can record Virginia trade show presentations, interviews with founding distributors of your Doswell direct sales company, or create an entertaining pitch about your Ashland business opportunity. Let your expertise and enthusiasm shine.

On Day 7 on NY Fashion Week, a new look for layers

(AP) ? Layers are nothing new, but New York Fashion Week is showing them in a different way.

The list of trends for next fall is piling on as the catwalk previews of new designer collections near their homestretch: There's fur, leather and lace, cozy knits, military looks. The good news about the new styles is that you can wear them all at once.

The interest in layered separates bodes well for menswear-inspired styles, said Brandon Holley, editor-in-chief of Lucky magazine. "Men dress more in separates, and I think women are enjoying being out of the day dress. That's when style really comes in for me, when you pick the skirt that will go with the shirt, and the sweater and the bag, and a scarf."

Holley added, "It's not just layers, it's interesting layers."

The look also extends the life of any one piece through changes in weather. That summer top gets a sweater in the fall, Holley said, and the turtlenecks and knits are so light, you can wear them when it's warmer outside.

And, she said, it seems like it's going to be leather weather year-round.

At Wednesday's Michael Kors show at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week tents at Lincoln Center, models were styled with fur vests over leather trenches and a slip dress underneath, or a Mongolian-fur vest with a chunky alpaca pullover.

"Mix up the texture," Kors said backstage before the show. "Mohair, tweed, plaid, faux and real fur, satin and lace. "

But if a shopper had to choose just one thing, he'd go with a coat. "The coats and outerwear this season are outrageous."

MICHAEL KORS

Michael Kors always starts his shows with a couple and this time they were in his-and-her red-check outfits. He wore a tartan plaid coat and checkered trousers, she had on a blanket coat with fringe in the large-square pattern known as buffalo check, plus a cashmere tweed sweater and cashmere short shorts.

Their wardrobe, which also included a sexy, luxe glove-leather trenchcoat for her, and suede utility pants for him, was all about "sporty American glamour," Kors explained.

"I thought about the '30s and those glamorous Hollywood couples ? the Clark Gables and Carole Lombards," he said in an interview backstage.

The Kors woman might wear a black wool sleeveless peacoat over a black beaded lace dress, or a camel-colored plaid mohair coat with a mohair sweater and plaid cropped pants.

Also shown were a black capelet jacket (a short cape) and pencil skirt, made of soft double-face cashgora (a mix of cashmere and angora), and a black-and-ivory mohair dress with a feather skirt.

Men's clothes were simpler, heavy on vercoats and slim, slightly short pants.

NANETTE LEPORE

Ever the Midwestern woman, Nanette Lepore sent a colorful but practical collection down the runway.

The Ohio native used deep, saturated reds, purples, blues and greens ? no black ? in her separates, prints and footwear. The line was modest too, no plunging necklines or slits to the thigh.

"The sort of overt sexiness of the last couple of years is gone and it's back to a more sort of modest or demure silhouette," Lepore said backstage. "Which I think is a great way for a woman to feel sexy because I don't think it's always about skin."

Lepore put pockets in her dresses and some models wore flats and loafers, not something often seen on the runway. The shoes were shiny jewel-toned blue, gold and pink. She used gold lame for a bouncy dress and jacket. The prints were intricate, inspired by tarot cards and gems.

Sean Penn Talks Falklands Dispute, Takes Argentina's Side

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- Actor Sean Penn is taking Argentina's side in the Falkland Islands dispute.

Penn met with Argentine President Cristina Kirchner on Monday and then urged Britain to join U.N.-sponsored talks over what he called "the Malvinas Islands of Argentina."

Penn says "the world today is not going to tolerate any ludicrous and archaic commitment to colonialist ideology."

Britain has refused to negotiate as long as Falklanders want to remain part of the British realm, and is increasing its military defenses ahead of the 30th anniversary of Argentina's failed effort to seize the islands.

Penn says diplomacy is the only solution.

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) ? Jessica Korda broke out her father's trademark scissor-kick celebration Sunday when she won the Women's Australian Open at Royal Melbourne for her first LPGA Tour title.

She decided against the cart wheels that her father, Petr, did when he won the 1998 Australian Open tennis title. Maybe she was still dizzy following a topsy-turvy final day of the tournament.

After losing the lead with a late bogey run, the 18-year-old American fought back to take the last spot in an improbable six-player playoff, then won with a 25-foot birdie putt on the second extra hole.

"It is a really special place for my family," Korda said. "For my first win, I honestly could not have thought of a better place."

What did her father say when they spoke by phone after the victory?

"That he was, 'So proud of me and we'll talk about the three-putts after,'" she said.

She closed with a 1-over 74 to finish at 3-under 289 in the first women's professional event at Royal Melbourne, the difficult sand-belt layout that was the site of the 2011 Presidents Cup.

Stacy Lewis, Brittany Lincicome, Julieta Granada, So Yeon Ryu and Hee Kyung Seo also were in the playoff that matched the largest in LPGA Tour history.

Ryu and Seo, playing ahead of Korda and Nikki Campbell in the second-to-last group, topped the leaderboard at 4 under going into the final hole of regulation, but made bogeys to set up the big playoff.

Lewis finished with a 70, Lincicome and Granada shot 71, and Ryu and Seo 73.

Split into threesomes on the par-4 18th, all six players parred the first extra hole. Lincicome's 6-foot birdie try circled the cup and stayed out.

"I couldn't have hit it any better," Lincicome said. "It was perfect, perfect speed. ... Lips out and comes back to you."

Playing in the first threesome, Lincicome also narrowly missed a 15-foot birdie try on the second playoff hole.

"Same thing on the second putt, hit it exactly where I wanted to hit it and it just didn't break," Lincicome said.

A few minutes later in the second group, Korda made her birdie putt, and won when Granada missed a 12-footer that would have sent the two back to the 18th tee.

"I was really calm," Korda said. "I knew what the putt did because I'd had it before and it did not move. I was a little higher up and more to the right. I knew the line and I knew the speed. All I had to do was just hit it. It started breaking. I thought, 'Oh, my goodness no, don't lip out, don't break too early.' I don't even know what side of the hole it hit. I was overwhelmed by everything."

Making her 16th start as an LPGA Tour member, Korda took a one-stroke lead into the round and was two ahead at 7 under after birdieing three of the first eight holes.

Then she made it a lot more exciting than she wanted.

She had a double bogey on No. 9, bogeyed 10, birdied 11, and bogeyed Nos. 14-16 to drop to 2 under ? two strokes behind Ryu and Seo.

Korda then ran ? yes, ran ? to the 17th tee.

"I was kind of upset," she said. "I needed to let off some steam. The way I throw off steam is I go for a run. It calmed me down. I was running around the parking lot this morning, too. I was doing circles around the cars."

Her mind was racing, too.

"I thought, 'You've got to be kidding me,'" Korda said. "I was lipping out and not reading my putts correctly. But I thought, 'Come on, you can still get it back.' ... I was walking down the fairway like an absolute goof."

She rallied with a birdie on the par-5 17th ? "After I made the birdie, I was OK, like, 'I can do this,'" she said ? and parred the 18th.

Projected to jump from 285th to 30th in the world ranking, she became the sixth youngest winner in LPGA Tour history and the fourth youngest to win a 72-hole event.

"All the times, I was down last year, it is all worth it," she said. "It made me grow up. It made me realize that you've got to change your life to live out here and this is proof. I know that all the hard hours I put in and will keep putting in are really worth it. Every moment."

Jenny Shin finished a stroke out of the playoff at 2 under after a 70.

Top-ranked Yani Tseng, the winner the last two years at Commonwealth Golf Club, was 1 under after a 74. "If I didn't have the two bogeys late, I probably still would have had a chance," Tseng said. "So it's good that I hung in there and fought back."
