Abbottabad is probably most well known for being the place where Osama bin Laden hid and eventually was killed by U.S. special forces in 2011. Now, Pakistan is planning an amusement park and recreation complex in that same town.
The project, which will take five years to complete, will include ?a zoo, water sports, a mini-golf course, rock climbing and paragliding,? according to Reuters ? as well as a cultural heritage park.
Syed Aqil Shah, sports and tourism minister in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, told the Associated Press that ?the development is not intended to counter Abbottabad?s negative reputation following bin Laden?s discovery there.? Rather, it is part of a revival of recreational and cultural activities in the province.
Construction is set to begin in a few weeks. Based on the different numbers reported by the AP and Reuters, the project looks like it will cost between $30 million and $50 million
