A Wichita baseball card shop owner is sharing surveillance video from a recent burglary at his store in hopes people will recognize the suspect.
The owner of Oliver's Sports Cards and Memorabilia, Vince Oliver, says it's the fifth time his south Wichita store has been broken into or held up in the past three years.
In the video, a young burglar is seen shattering the front door but isn't so swift at concealing his identity once inside.
"Luckily, he was 'smart' enough to pull his hoody off for me," Oliver said. "I appreciate that."
The cameras then show the burglar wandering through the store as if he is unsure of what he's looking for. When the alarm begins to sound about 45 seconds into the break-in, the burglar dashes back out the front door.
But he's seen on camera returning less than three minutes later.
"He grabs some sports cards, grabs my laptop, and leaves," Oliver said.
As Oliver gave a play-by-play of the video Monday at his store he said he couldn't believe he was once again having to pour our surveillance video of a crime at his store.
"It irritates me," Oliver said.
Oliver says this most recent burglary, which happened February 10, was costly. He says between the $500 to fix the front door and all the merchandise the burglars stole, he's out about $2,000.
"The monetary value isn't the big deal on the sports cards. The big deal is that somebody thought they had the right to take my stuff," Oliver said.
He's most upset about the theft of his business laptop that had on it photos of him with athletes like Deacon Jones and Jerry Rice.
"I can't get those back," Oliver said.
Nor can he get back the nearly $11,000 in merchandise stolen from his last year.
"If I have to keep doing this on a monthly or every two or three months basis, I just can't afford it," Oliver said. "There's not enough profit in what I do."
That's why he wants to put a stop to these break-ins now.
He wants burglars to know their every move will be well-documented in his store. And, he wants police to know he needs their assistance.
"I'm hoping that this time they will get the guy who did this," Oliver said.
